Goltsev Anatoliy

Anatoliy Goltsev was born 11th of October, 1943 in Trubetchino village (Lipetsk region, Russian Federation). In 1972, he graduated with honors from the Faculty of Sanitary Hygiene of Kharkov Medical Institute. Just after graduation A. Goltsev entered the post-graduate course at the Institute for Problems of Cryobiology and Cryomedicine (IPC&C NASU), from 1976 till 1980 he worked as a junior, and since 1980 as a senior fellow at the Institute. In 1986, he was appointed the Head of the Laboratory of monocyte-phagocyte elements at Cryoimmunology Department, and in 1993 he was competitively elected as the Head of newly formed Department of Cryopathophysiology. He defended the PhD thesis in 1978, and in 1988 was awarded with MD title. In 2002, Anatoliy Goltsev was elected a corresponding member, and in 2010 a Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. In 2011, Academician A. Goltsev became the Director of the IPC&C.

Anatoliy Goltsev is the one who initiates and is the co-author of the researches on development of cryopreservation techniques, long-term preservation and maintenance of the integrity of biological objects of different origins (bone marrow, fetal liver, nervous tissue, cord blood, etc.) to use them for treatment of autoimmune genesis diseases. Academician A. Goltsev for the first time proved the possibility of directional change in immunoreactivity of allogeneic bone marrow after cryopreservation with certain modes minimizing an immune conflict in the form of graft-versus-host disease." Under his leadership over the past years on a competitive basis the works aimed to theoretical substantiation and practical use of advanced nano- and cryogenic technologies in biology and medicine in the framework of targeted initiatives STCU and NAS of Ukraine, as well as a comprehensive program of NAS of Ukraine "Development of novel medical-biological and bioengineered technologies for human health and national economy." Academician Anatoliy Goltsev investigated the effect of cryopreservation factors on genome of cells, in particular, on expression of the genes of self-renewal, proliferation and differentiation of hematopoietic stem and stromal elements of immune cells of different origins and cancer stem cells. The state of genetic apparatus of immune cells after the application of fetal material in intact body and at some pathologies.

Since 1980, Anatoly Goltsev was the scientific secretary, and since 2011 he has chaired the Specialized Scientific Council of the IPC&C of National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. He is also a member of the Specialized Scientific Council of Danilevsky Institute for Endocrine Pathology and Hormone Chemistry of the Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine, chairman of the Expert Committee and the editorial board of the journal "Problems of Cryobiology and Cryomedicine", the chairman of regional societies of Cryobiology and Cryomedicine, Immunology, member of the societies of Gerontology, Oncologists, Immunologists and Allergists of Ukraine.

A. Goltsev is the author of over 400 scientific papers, including 4 monographs and 22 patents. For his work, "The immunological features of cryopreserved hematopoietic stem cells," he was awarded with the Diploma of scientific and medical community in Kharkiv (1992), was recognized as the Soros Professor (1998), was awarded with V.Ya.Danilevskiy Prize (2002), one of the winners of the State Prize of the Ukraine in the field of science and technology (2002), in 2008 he received the medal of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine "For scientific achievements."
